Throughout my time on WordPress I’ve been blogging about what it means to be productive and tips that can be used to help with this; one thing I haven’t touched on is what it means to waste your life and how you can achieve that.
Disclaimer: this piece is entirely satirical, I have no intentions to offend anyone to mislead.
Wasting life – sit down on the grass and read a book, lay back and watch the clouds float by know that time is passing and you can’t stop it. You can just wait and wait and wait and look another cloud shaped like a cat, how cute.
Open your laptop and turn up that music, stand up and move your body to the beat, or maybe don’t, just do whatever feels right. Jump off the walls and fly off the ceilings, it’s strange but that’s another hour after hour after hour going by.
Grab as many blankets and pillows as you can find and bury yourself inside your bed, scroll through social media, watch a few YouTube videos and don’t move, moving is for productive people, we’re not about that life. Stare at the screen and forget about time as you enter the wormhole of the glorious internet. Fun, fun, fun.
Turn on the TV and find a show, there’s nothing really to your taste, you scroll through billions of shows moving quickly, or so you think. You finally found something, but wait, you can’t forget the snacks. Okay, snacks have been grabbed and a show found. Just one episode, and another and another and another. Whoops, three seasons have gone by, and so has a whole night.
Let’s try again tomorrow.
You may have found yourself within these paragraphs, and if you’re like me, this can instill a feeling of anxiety, of shame, and of guilt for wasting away your life. Society, the media and everything in between have warned us about wasting time, we fail to accomplish our dreams, we fail at life itself.
But that’s the problem, dreams don’t have expiry dates or completion dates, they happen as you go through life. There’s no such thing as wasted time, whether you like to spend time dancing to music, surrounded by pillows and blankets or cloud watching, that’s how you take care of you. And before society’s expectations of your life, comes your expectations of your life.
Time spent with cats is never wasted, just as spending time with yourself and recharging is never wasted. Don’t be afraid to let go and just be. We’re all running around, moving from one problem to another, from one life stage to another that we forgot that all we have is the present moment.
Use it wisely, or maybe not, look that one’s shaped like a heart.
