The summer times are usually one of the best times to cultivate new habits and/or work on ones that already exist, and one of the main habits that you should be focusing on is self-care, a little disclaimer, some of the things I’ve mentioned may not work for you, and if they don’t that’s completely fine, they may help someone else out there. If you are struggling then I would definitely recommend using the trial and error method to work through a bunch of habits and perhaps even coming up with ones that suit you. Remember, it’s all about finding something that you’re comfortable with and that’s right for you.
The soul usually knows what to do to heal itself, the challenge is to silence the mind.
5 Self-Care Tips for Summer
Step 1: Get moving
One of the biggest things you can do for yourself and your own health is actively get outside into the fresh air and move your body. Whether this is a 15 minute walk or an hour long run, you’ll feel a lot more refreshed and what better time to soak up some essential vitamins and feel the warmth of the sun.
Step 2: Reflect on life and yourself
This is something that should apply to every season, not just summer, but summer is a good time to start thinking about the future and what you plan on doing in life. It’s also a good exercise to help you learn more about yourself and cultivate a loving relationship. Whether you do this in your head or write it down in a journal it’s always useful to keep track of progress that you’re making and notice small wins.
Step 3: Go on an artist’s date
This is by far my favourite self care tip, though it requires indulgence and self satisfaction it’s also fun and exciting. The main point of this is to take yourself on a date and do things that you enjoy, when I started this practices last summer I would go to various café’s, sip on delicious hot chocolate and read a good book or blog on my laptop. I would visit bookstores and libraries and fill up my stomach with some delicious food for lunch, it could be anything that I was craving that particular day. Some of my fondest summer memories come from taking care of myself in this way.
Step 4: Do absolutely nothing
This is something I need to work on, especially during summer when I have lots of free time on my hands and want to just go go go with courses and such. For the past few days I’ve been listening to my mind and soul recently and have decided not only should I be taking breaks, I need them for my own well-being. Besides it’s summer.
Step 5: Take care of your skin
This is something that’s hugely important during summer time since the sun’s rays impacts our skin much more, I recommend having a good skincare routine for both morning and night that’s includes SPF, it’ll work wonders for your skin.
Learn to love yourself, it may take time but you deserve that.
