Life Update #1: Achieving my Goals

one of the secrets of life is to make stepping stones out of stumbling blocks.jpg

Quite recently I had the privilege to come into contact with a start-up American-based company, My Trending Stories, who seek out different types of bloggers and offer them a writing opportunity that gives them exposure to larger audiences.

When I first received the message I was sceptical in that it had only been a few months since I’d started my own blog, which I’ve now come to cherish, so why would they want someone who hadn’t been fully exposed to the writing community, especially since that it was all online, for everyone to see.

For approximately a year, I looked back on the message wondering whether or not it was right for me to take it at that particular moment in time. Since then my blog has grown in views, visitors and in content, I decided to take the opportunity to email them. Considering that it had been nearly a year, I was not hopeful. I assumed it would be too late, they could have easily replaced my position with someone who was experienced. Despite thinking in this way, I still had hope and eventually, received an email back.

I still remember the euphoric feeling I had when asked to create my short bio and wondering how far I’d come since the very first post I published. Although I may be writing on another platform, the passion I have when it comes to writing will not change, and this blog, my very own blog will always take priority.

Ever since that moment, I’ve decided not to wait for opportunities to come to me and instead seek them out, and if by chance, they do come to me, to take them with open arms. It just goes to show, by doing what you love, you’ll always receive something back, it might not happen immediately but at one point it will, changing your perspective and hence your life, forever.

  1. I completely agree. I went to your homepage first so I can see that you’re really dedicated to your writing. I’d suggest changing your theme; the photo collage is awesome but it’s kind of overwhelming because of how close together the photos are. As for your content: insightful and inspiring. Keep up the good work!

  2. Hey WLA 🙂
Thank you so much for your feedback. I was so amazed at reading this post. My Trending Stories contacted me too and I had the same reaction you had. I was not sure about it ^^ and never replied. Let me know how it goes writing for them. I am curious now 😉

    1. HI 🙂 I totally understand the whole idea of not being sure but I ended up contacting them around 11 months after the original message and they are still open to bloggers writing on their site.
I got replies pretty quickly and soon an account was set up, it was exciting and scary and I’ve still got a long way to go since this blog takes priority.

      1. I had a look at it. It is a platform for bloggers. The difference with WordPress being that it is all classified in different categories and that authors have a page with links to their articles instead of a blog.

  3. what a nice post. Surely we all must follow what ever life turns but also keep a weary eye out for pot holes along the way. You have a nice blog. I found it today through the community pool. Nice to know you.

  4. I’m so glad you took the leap. Seeking or re-igniting opportunities we thought might be lost, or maybe think we don’t deserve takes courage. In a way, it’s the simplest of all things: asking for what we want without being attached to the answer. But it’s not simple in practice for most of us. Taking the “leap” is less about where you’ll fall and more about deciding the joy of leaping itself is reward enough. I love your post. Thank you.

My partner and I were recently talking about this — just TRYING. Whether it means asking for a favor, offering a service, or whatever… The worst that can happen is you’ll be ignored or rejected. And that isn’t as bad as it sounds! It’s okay to ask for help (for a guest blog spot, for a promotion, for a job at a company you admire, for the opportunity to promote, etc.). If you think about it, a lot of people want to help. If someone came to you and asked for a favor, chances are you would at least try to accommodate them. So, yeah, TRY. Just go for it.
I’m glad you went for it. x
