Tips to Achieving your Dreams


One of the easiest yet most difficult aspects of life is to achieve your dreams, the reason I say this is because we all, at some point in our lives, know that we want to achieve something whether it be a personal goal or work related. Yet, when it comes to physically achieving them we decide that it’s too difficult and the actual scale of the goal is just too large, so we cannot possibly work towards it.

But that’s where you’re wrong, to achieve your dreams isn’t just a distraction from your life, it’s something that can be done to work towards it, something that could possibly lead to a sense of fulfilment. Every single person on this Earth has a dream, a desire that needs to be fulfilled, yet they’re all so distinct and different that there a million different ways to achieve them.

One of the most important things to remember when working towards your dreams is that there is no short cut, there isn’t path filled with rainbows and smiles and not everyone will support you. But that’s okay because even if it’s a goal only you can see, it’ll be worth following it in the end.

Despite there being no easy way to reach your goals there are a few useful tips that can help you along the way:

  1. Understand why you want to achieve a certain goal, look deep within yourself and try to explain to yourself why it’s important to you, many of the most common dreams stem from wanting to achieve something just for the sake of achieving it. It has no real purpose or meaning behind it. 
  2. Envision it as often as possible in many different forms, whether this is through writing, drawing or even creating something that links to your goal. This is helpful in bringing the dream alive and making it seem like you’re already on your way to achieving it.
  3. Break the goal down into sub-goals and be active in keeping track of this with deadlines. The worst thing about having a huge goal is that feeling of dread and unease when you realise it’s so huge and seemingly impossible to do, by breaking it down, it becomes easier to complete.
  4. Don’t let your happiness depend on the fulfilment of the goal. Progressing towards a goal can make you happy, but don’t let your happiness depend on it, I’ve had recent experience with this where all I could think about was my goal that I became trapped in an unhappy cycle where I was nowhere near my goal. As a result, I was blind to all that I had accomplished recently. 

Most of all, always celebrate the little things when it comes to achieving your goals because without having those smaller steps you wouldn’t be anywhere near the final goal.
